Business Plans

The best business plans are those that present key information in a clear and concise manner. The following business plan format, with a length of no more than 15-20 slides, is recommended.

1. Company Purpose

  • Describe the problem currently faced by your potential customer (or the customer’s customer).
  • Explain how the customer addresses this problem (if at all) today.


3. Solution

  • How do you propose to make the customer’s life better?
  • Show where your product or service physically sits.
  • Provide use cases.


4. Why Now

  • Set-up the historical timeline and evolution of your segment.
  • Define recent trends that make your solution possible.


5. Market Size

  • Identify and profile the customer you are aiming to market and sell to.
  • Calculate the TAM or total addressable market (top down), SAM or serviceable addressable market (bottoms up) and SOM or share or market.


6. Competition

  • Name your direct and indirect competitors.
  • Explain your company’s competitive advantages.


7. Product or Service

  • Describe your products and/or services (form factor, functionality, features, architecture, intellectual property).
  • Outline how your plan to develop your product or service over time.


8. Business Model

  • Revenue Model

  • Lifetime value of customer or average account size
