MiCel, formerly known as Finestrella, is an innovative pioneer in the delivery of affordable and high value data and telephony services to the large unbanked population in Mexico comprising 75% of the entire population and nearly the entire base of the pyramid (BoP) socioeconomic segment.
The Company sells its post-paid mobile data and telephony plans at point of sale locations, such as mobile phone stores, and telephonically to customers without a bank account, credit card or credit history that would otherwise be dependent on significantly more costly pre-paid alternatives. MiCel has the opportunity to increase the accessibility of mobile communications for, and diminish the “poverty premium” paid by, the low-income population by addressing the barriers to adoption of post-paid telephony and data services.
MiCel's plans are currently available in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, Veracruz, Cuernavaca, León, Culiacán, and Saltillo, which collectively cover over 40% of the country’s population.
